I was getting this nice yellow news letter from a Gold Star group and they were having a meet up NY state by Delta Lake around 1978-ish. On an impulse I borrowed a pickup, loaded my 1959 DBD 34 Catalina Scrambler and an ammo box full of rusty Gold Star parts and drove up north to the meet. I should add that I also loaded about 8 pounds of Grove City/Marionville enduro Pa dirt when I pushed the hefty BSA on board. The guys at the meet were all sweethearts. Tales were told, we did a group ride to a fighter base, we drank at a pub and there was -lucky for me- a swap meet where I got the unbelievable sum of $100 for the ammo box of junk parts. Then there came the let-down--- There came the Good, there came the Bad, and there came the Ugly! I just told you about the Good. That was the beer and the stories and the ride and the swap meet. There came the Bad....They ejected me and my machine from the group photo! There came the Ugly??!! How could they see my beautiful, dirty, patina rich dirt bike as ugly? But in their eyes my Gold Star, even with all its dings and blemishes that outlined and intensified its brutish beauty, was an object of ugliness. I don't know if I'll ever recover completely from that humiliating experience. But the $100 helped. $20 of it got me an incredible glider ride.

Just remember - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Besides, bikes are mostly for riding, not just lookin' at. ;)
Never met a motorcycle I didn't like.
