Yes, the Avatar image is an actual picture of me - back when I was younger and handsomer.

Also, if you have not seen it, here is an excellent tech forum for BSA unit singles. If you ask a question there you will almost certainly get answers as there are members all over the world.

Was just reading in "Rupert Ratio's BSA Unit Single Engine Manual" something about slipping clutches on these unit singles. According to Rupert, "one possible cause relates to the spring cups bottoming out in the hub. The correct spring cup length is 1-1/8". Shorter ones from a Triumph Cub can be fitted to increase spring pressure and cure clutch slip. However, the resulting clutch lever weight at the handlebar will be excessively heavy."

The Victor and other era BSA unit singles used a clutch with 4 friction plates. The B50's of 71-72 used a 5-plate clutch. Rupert says that to convert a four plate to a five plate, you need the following parts:
1. Later type clutch hub with no flange (or cut away the flange on your existing hub)
2. Later type clutch center with larger flange and use the thrust washer what comes with it
3. Use a chain-wheel with the machined area in the middle large enough diameter to suit the new clutch center.

A short cut to a five plate clutch is to cut the flange off the hub and fit the extra friction disc without changing to the later center with the thrust washer. This will work, but the back of the chain-wheel will wear quickly where the flange on the center runs against it under pressure whenever the clutch is engaged/disengaged.

I'm no expert on this stuff...... just had a few Victors over the years. You can read all of the above in "The Rupert Ratio Unit Single Engine Manual", available at better book stores, as they say. I'd also recommend you contact Ed Veliket at E & V Engineering up there in Michigan.

Hope this helps

My 72 triumph T25T (B25 in triumph clothes)has the 5 plate clutch and it works great, took a little tuning to get the spring pressure and lever feel to my satisfaction but it has been flawless,I only compete on the bike in the reliability runs but it gets alot of road time as it has a plate on it,put near 1000 miles on it last year and the clutch still works great,I have had a bunch of these unit singles over the year but this one works the best
if this was easy, everyone would do it
